BORDUMSA : As a part of the continued crackdown against drugs, a joint team of Arunachal Police in Namsai arrested two suspected drug peddlers with a huge quantity of contraband substances worth Rs 17.15 lakh. The well-executed raid conducted in the wee hours under the close supervision of the newly posted Superintendent of Police, S. Thinley, led to the arrest of two much-chased drug whole-sale dealers in the district.
The arrested kingpins of the drug market have been identified as Bhaskar Gogoi and Putulon Gogoi, both residents of Bogamur Pahargaon village in Namsai. The anti-drug squad constituted for this purpose also recovered as many as 49 soap cases containing suspected heroin weighing approximately 499.15 grams. Beside this, an amount of Rs 30,500 believed to be proceeds from drug sales was also seized during the operation.
A statement by the police said that based on a tip-off, a specialized team under the supervision of SP Namsai was put forward to trace a suspected consignment of contraband drugs. Serving a strong note of warning to all the drug traders, dealers, peddlers, and addicts in Namsai district, Thinley assumed his office had advised the anti social elements to refrain from committing any undesirable activities detrimental to society. "No matter who the accused is, his jurisdiction, or his affiliation, if found guilty, he would never be spared whatever came next", said the top cop of the district while talking to the Sentinel.
The team of Namsai police has now guarded its loins and is working on a definite mechanism to combat the menace of drugs from Namsai and its adjoining vulnerable locations, added S. Thinley. A case to this effect has been registered at Namsai PS under NMS PS C/No. 42/23 U/S 21(C) NDPS Act.
